Azure Storage was launched in 2008 as part of Microsoft’s attempt to extend its ecosystem in cloud computing. The Azure Cloud Storage platform also provided Microsoft with the opportunity to implement hybrid and multi-cloud strategies and enabled the development of easily integrable, cloud-based storage solutions.

Why Azure Cloud Storage

Azure Cloud Storage is a cloud storage solution for modern data storage scenarios like object, block, and file storage. This platform offers a highly scalable, durable, and secure storage solution for several data objects in the cloud, including binary, text, structured, and unstructured data, ensuring they are accessible from anywhere in the world.

Azure Cloud Storage also provides different options for data redundancy to ensure data availability regardless of hardware failures or natural disasters. With this, businesses can achieve digital transformation, optimize their IT infrastructure, and leverage the productive and innovative benefits of cloud computing.

Azure Files

Azure Files is a cloud-based service that offers a fully managed file share solution in the cloud, allowing organizations to store and share files with their applications and virtual machines. This service features a familiar file system interface which fosters easier integration with existing applications and workloads.

With Azure Files, organizations can create file shares in the cloud that can be accessed concurrently by several users and applications. This platform also supports Server Message Block and Network File System protocols, ensuring compatibility with several applications and operating systems.

Microsoft fully manages Azure Files' infrastructure, allowing organizations to focus on their applications and data. The platform also ensures files are stored across multiple storage nodes with built-in redundancy capabilities. Other features include hybrid connectivity, scalability, and performance optimization options.

The Azure Files platform is ideal for several use cases, from application storage to content management, file sharing, and development environments. It provides a flexible and scalable solution for storing and accessing files in the cloud, effectively eliminating the need for managing on-premises file servers and providing a cost-effective storage option.

Azure Blob

Azure Blobs is a massively scalable object store for text and binary data. This platform incorporates several data services, including data availability, encryption, fine-grained access control, client libraries, support, and visual tools. Azure Blobs also provide different options for data redundancy in the event of hardware failure or disasters. Organizations can also engage in its data analytics capabilities through Data Lake Storage Gen2, which offers a hierarchical file system and advanced features for analytics workloads.

Azure Elastic SAN

Azure’s cloud-native Storage Area Network service offers a scalable, cost-effective, high-performance storage solution for several computing options. This service is ideal for virtual machines, containers, and cloud-native applications. Azure Elastic SAN supports the iSCSI protocol for connecting to storage volumes from several clients. This platform also provides high availability and data protection with two main redundancy options; zone redundancy storage (ZRS) and local redundancy storage (LRS).

Azure Queues

Azure Queues helps organizations store large numbers of messages that can be accessed from anywhere with authenticated calls using HTTP or HTTPS. This service primarily creates a backlog of work to process asynchronously by separating application components and enabling reliable communication between them. A single queue message can be up to 64 KB in size, with a queue capable of containing millions of messages.

Azure Tables

Organizations can store non-relational structured data or structured NoSQL data in the cloud with Azure Tables, providing an attribute store with a schemaless design. Azure Table is the ideal service for storing flexible datasets that don’t require complex joins, stored procedures, or foreign keys, such as address books, web applications, or other types of metadata.

Azure Managed Disks

Azure Managed Disks are block-level storage columns managed by Azure and utilized with the Azure VM and VMware solution. These disks are like physical ones in an on-premises server but virtualized. This service offers four disk storage options: Ultra Disk Storage, Premium SSD, Standard SSD, and Standard HDD, each with different performance characteristics and pricing models.
